The Prayer at College Assembly on 11 September, 2020

Almighty Creator, our Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Providence, so that we may gather here today for our Opening Ceremony. Although our learning for this semester must take on an unprecedented and unfamiliar form, with new obstacles and challenges, we believe that Your grace will see us through these times. Father, please grant us understanding on the value and meaning of why we must experience all of this, thus granting us strength to strive forwards. We pray for each and every one of us, especially the new members of our Chung Chi family, whether staff or student, that we can adapt and engage in this community. Moreover, we pray for all of our lives in this coming year; we pray that all people can experience learning and growth in Your loving hands, thus becoming full of faith, hope and love. In Your name we pray, Amen.

伍渭文牧師 – 這個聖誕,我要燃點燭光

I will Light Candles this Christmas
by Howard Thurman (1899-1981)

I will light Candles this Christmas;
Candles of joy despite all sadness, Candles of hope where despair keeps watch, Candles of courage for fears ever present, Candles of peace for tempest-tossed days,
Candles of grace to ease heavy burdens, Candles of love to inspire all my living, Candles that will burn all the year long.

Build me a son, O Lord 上主阿!建立我的兒子

Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.
Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son who will know Thee…. Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.
